Wakayama Castle

Home of Kishu Tokugawa, one of the three branch families of the Tokugawa Shogunate, this is known as one of the Three Great Flatland Mountain Castles of Japan. It shines with beauty in every season. See the chalk-white castle keep against the pink sakura in the spring, or the deep red of autumn adorning the castle grounds.

Kimii-dera (Temple)

This is the temple where the successive generations of Kishu Tokugawa feudal lords prayed for prosperity. Climb up a steep 231 steps to reach the main temple building.
The early blooming sakura here are a sight to behold.

Shirahama

Shirahama is the representative hot spring resort of the Kansai area, and is full of hotels and ryokan.
Along the rippling coastline are splendid views of Engetsujima and Sandanheki. The white, sandy beaches will whisk you away to a tropical paradise.

The Three Kumano Shrines / Kumano Kodo / The Nachi Falls

The sacred ground of the three shrines of the gods of Kumano, along with the pilgrimage road known as the Kumano Kodo, were registered as World Cultural Heritage Sites in 2004.
The Nachi Falls are the tallest falls in Japan at a height of 133 meters and are revered as a place where deities reside.
This area received three stars from The Michelin Green Guide Japan and has gained attention as a spiritually enriching “power spot” as well.

Mt. Koya

Surrounded by mountains towering 1000 meters above sea level, the “Sanctuary in the Clouds” here was built in the year 1200 and has stood the test of time.
Mt. Koya, full of Buddhist culture, history, and abundant nature, was registered as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 2004.
